Hijab Trend: Hijab With Volume

So a big thing among stylish hijabis is styling your hijab with a lot of volume. While this is an appealing trend, one thing that sort of bothers me is this direct Hadith: The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell that I have never seen: people with whips like the tails of cattle, with which they strike people, and women who are dressed but appear naked, walking with an enticing gait, with their heads looking like the humps of camels leaning to one side. They will never enter Paradise, nor even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be discerned from such and such a distance.” [Muslim]

It is important to note that while women assume this means physical hair, the hadith states “heads looking like camel humps” which is what scares me. Now if you are a hijabi who does this look, I am not trying to attack you, but I am trying to research what other hijabis’ takes are on this hadith.

What are your thoughts on the subject? I can honestly say that I have been guilty of using this hijab look, but once I remembered this hadith, I have decided to stay away from the over volumized look. The way I personally avoid it is by tying a low bun versus a high bun when I can.

Hijabi Obsession: Pastels

20130202-155246.jpg

So today is my birthday! And while it is never quite the same as when you are younger, this birthday was more special than most. I got to spend it with my closest friends and family.

One great thing about blogging is that it seems that your friends will read your blog and its like a window into your head. The reason I say this is because based on my recent obsession with candy colored beauty products, my friends all came to visit me bearing pastel gifts!

So today, I am rocking a lot of mint, aqua, and sorbet cream. And I feel as happy as the 80’s kid I used to be wearing my pastel Izod polo (which I used to pair with my black blazer with shoulders pads!).

I hope you have an amazing weekend and stay tuned for more posts soon iA!

Online Shopping Review: Haute Hijab

Haute Hijab

Haute Hijab

I am always on the look out for great places to shop for modest, yet fashionable clothing items. As a working professional, it is important to look clean and polished in the office. So when I found Melanie’s website Haute Hijab, I was definitely excited to shop. One of the things that I look for is quality over quantity. I love bargain chain stores like Forever 21, but I have found that after a few wears of the item, the item literally rips, or becomes unwearable. I would much rather have a piece that can withstand time because of the quality of the material, stitching, and workmanship. So while Haute Hijab’s prices are on the high end for some of my readers, I want to assure you that these pieces are definitely quality pieces that are worth the investment.

Here is a rundown of how I ordered my items through Haute Hijab:

Online Browsing: Haute Hijab is very easy to navigate. I was more interested in modest clothing, I clicked on the Clothing tab to browse. 2013 has been announced the year of Emerald Green, so I immediately fell in love with the Jade Tulip Silk Skirt. Since it is close to my birthday I sent a hint to the Hubster that this is just beautiful. Being a good Hubs, he took the hint and went online to check it out.

Buying Experience: So when the Hubster actually bought my skirt, he was very sweet and assumed I was a size 2 (I am not a size 2, but thank you Hubs for thinking I am thinner than I am!). Luckily, Melanie and I know each other from Instagram so when I let her know my Hubs purchased a skirt, she pinged me a note to ask if I really wanted a size 2. How sweet is that? I emailed her back letting her know that no, I needed a size 6 in reality. She immediately notified her team and they shipped the correct skirt. For readers who may not know Melanie, if you just email Customer Service, they are very responsive and will amend your order if necessary. I can’t say enough good things about the Customer Service experience with this site!

Shipping: There is FREE shipping to U.S. and Canada. For all other countries, shipping is a flat rate of $5.00. It ships quickly and you will get an email notification of when it ships along with a tracking URL. You can track when your package will arrive which is always nice!

When I finally opened my package, I found the sweetest note from the Haute Hijab team on a branded postcard thanking me for my purchase which I personally thought was such a nice touch. The only bad thing is that I foresee is my bank account getting smaller because I can see myself buying MORE from them!

Hijabi Obsession: Lace Looks

Source: 25.media.tumblr.com via Sandra on Pinterest

Hello my lovelies! After a nice long holiday, I am back in action. One of my new resolutions for the New Year is to refresh my look without going bananas on my budget. As a hijabi mommy, I would prefer to save my funds for a rainy day. One way I always refresh my look is with new hijabs. I love the recent rash of romantic lace hijabs. They look amazing. One of my main issues with this look in the past has been the sheer nature of lace. However with a solid underlay, lace can be a stunning hijabi fashionista look.

I particularly love the look of this nude lace hijab. What do you think?

Hijab Fashion Trend: Purple Passion

A Lot of hijabis are going dark with not only their hijab color palette, but also their makeup. Normally, I prefer smoky eyes and a nude lipstick, but there is something so alluring about bold purple lipstick paired with flawless skin. The key to not looking like a goth wannabe is making sure that you have some color in the form of bronzer or blush on your face.

I think it’s still a little too daring for me, but I definitely will try a purple ombre scarf soon iA!

Review: Rent The Runway

Okay, I can admit that I am a fashion junkie. So when I received a promotional gift card in my December Birchbox to try a site called Rent the Runway, I was so excited! So far, the sign up and the actual process of ordering the dress I wanted was painless. They even give you a free backup size dress (perfect for hijabis who don’t want something too tight). I also was able to chat online in real time with a stylist about what size dress to order any way. I explained that I am a hijabi and she was so excited!

This site is perfect for hijabis who want to dress nicely for special occasions yet don’t want to spend hundreds on a dress they will only wear once. I ordered the Alice by Temperley dress above for my best friend’s wedding. I will let you know how the dress fits and looks once I get it in January. In the meantime, make sure to check Rent the Runway out if you are a budget hijabi fashionista!

Quick update: For hijabis who adore desi clothes, check out Borrow It Bindaas.
