Friday Fun: Candy Inspired Makeup

Estee Lauder Pastel Polishes

Estee Lauder Pastel Polishes

I am lucky enough to live in the Bay area of California, so our winters are pretty mild. That being said, I am tired of chilly weather and I want spring to come! One ways I have been battling the winter blahs is by trying to infuse candy colored pastels in to my wardrobe mix. Try rocking mint green jeans with your sweater or a nice cotton candy pink hijab with your neutrals. Another great way to welcome spring a little early is by rocking some amazing new candy colored makeup trends.

I personally love rocking different nail polish colors. I have rocked anything from greige (gray/beige) to black. Right now, you can find periwinkle gracing my toes and cantaloupe on my finger tips. You can even try pastel eyeliner! Try placing some on top of basic black for eyes that really pop. I guarantee it will make your day just a little brighter.

Victoria’s Secret Nail Polish Launch Tomorrow on 1/29/13

Victoria's Secret Nail Polish

Victoria’s Secret Nail Polish

Hello my lovelies! I hope you had a great weekend. I spend the bulk of my past two weekend prepping for a move that took my family pretty far from our homebase of San Francisco to a more family friendly suburbs.

But that still didn’t stop me from learning about how Victoria’s Secret is jumping on the nail art frenzy that carried from 2012 over to 2013. They are planning to launch a line of premium nail polishes that is sure to have any fashionista satisfied. Since this is not the same polish as Inglot, my Muslim chicas will have to wait till their monthly friend or any other life circumstances that excuses them from prayer.

But still! Pretty cute polishes overall. They retail for $10 a piece so check them out next time you are in the store this month.

Halal Nail Polish? Inglot May Have An Answer

Inglot O2M Nail Polish

So there is a lot of buzz about a “halal nail polish” that allows Muslim women to wear a nail polish and pray without having to remove it in order to make wudu.

For my non Muslim readers, Muslims are required to perform ablutions and wash up before our 5 daily prayers. This includes water reaching our nail beds so that we are pure when we pray to God.

When you wear traditional nail polish, the polish prevents water from reaching the nail bed which is why most Muslim women abstain from wearing nail polish unless they are not praying (breast feeding, menstruating etc).

The cosmetics company Inglot has introduced a polish called O2M which allows water vapors to reach the nail bed. Initially, I was skeptical since vapor does not sound as substantial as water. However, according to Suhaib Webb’s site, it seems that doing a simple coffee filter test shows that water does reach the nail bed.

So there you have it! While I personally will still avoid wearing polish till I can’t pray, at least there is a new option on the market.

Smoky Eyes Tutorial

I know that holiday season is over, but seeing the parade of smoky eyes on the red carpet at the Golden Globes inspired me to revisit the smoky eye. The smoky eye is always a favorite for me. I wanted to share this easy pictorial that you can use to recreate your own smoky eyes. It’s interesting to note that the smoky look is timeless. In fact, ancient Egyptians used kohl around their eyes to keep away flies that could cause blindness! Granted, we are lucky enough to not have to worry about that, but the look is still as stunning now as it was back then.

Hijabi Trend Alert: Ornate Hijab Jewels

Happy Monday lovely ladies! I hope that you had an amazing weekend. I was very busy running after my chubster. With my Hubster being busier than ever with work, I am getting a workout chasing after our baby! One thing I always manage to do is catch up on my stylish hijabis in action on social media channels. Do you know what I noticed?

Major hijab bling in the form of not only headbands and brooches, but hijabis are pinning actual necklaces on their foreheads too! Maybe its because I am desi, but I am loving this look. It may be too princess for some hijabis, and this look is not for everyday wear, but I think its lovely. What do you think? Is this a Do or a Don’t?

People are busier than ever in today’s fast and furious world. Whether you’re a working professional by day and parent by night or stay-at-home parent balancing carpools and soccer practices, the typical 8-hour day is a thing of the past. I know that as a working professional, blogger about hijabi life, and as a full time mama, I wish I had more hours in the day!

It’s important that your contact lenses stay comfortable all day long, and CooperVision wants you to do it all…in comfort

CooperVision and Katy Atlas – well-known author of Sugar Laws, a blog about fashion, food and beauty – partnered to launch the Eye Do It All campaign, featuring a series of “how to” videos focused on providing quick and easy tips for updating your look to keep up with trending styles.

Now CooperVision contact lens wearers have a chance to tell us how their contact lenses help them “do it all” by posting on CooperVision’s Facebook page, or sending a quick photo or video.

Users whose posts are selected as winners will receive an annual supply of contact lenses, so that they can keep doing it all with CooperVision comfort.

So what are you waiting for? If you still haven’t tried CooperVision contact lenses, visit CooperVision’s Facebook page now and say “Eye Do” to the CooperVision Challenge to receive a free trial. I know I love my own CooperVision contact lenses. They are so comfortable and they last as long as I do.

How To: Pull Off Bright Lipstick

A hot trend among the hijabi set has been bright lipstick. It is a very bold makeup choice, but it can look too jarring (or tacky) if it is paired with a lot of other colors. For readers who are more conservative, this is a nice look to wear at home for your hubby.

Here are my tips and tricks for making the bold lip work for you:

  • Keep It Simple: For such a statement lip color, it is best for you to keep the rest of your makeup simple and in neutral colors.
  • Use Blush Or Bronzer: A key trick to avoiding a vampire look is to make sure that you have some color on your face so that the bold lip color doesn’t suck the color out of your face and make you look like a ghost. I prefer to use a pale coral blush or a nice warm bronzer to balance the lip color.
  • Balance Your Eyes: Keeping it simple doesn’t mean you skip eye makeup completely. So you don’t look too cartoonish, make sure you have some simple neutral eye makeup on.

Make sure you have fun and smile! I think that the happiest girls make the prettiest girls so rock that lip color with a nice smile. What are your tricks for rocking this look? Let me know!

PS: Here is my hot mama friend Sana with her adorable baby boy rocking the bold lip look. She recommends keeping it matte so it is longer lasting and less messy. I have to agree!
