Hijabi Obsession: Feather Collars

hijabi style collage with a feather collar

Feather collar plus emerald green? Yes please!

The stylish hijabi set are embracing a new style trend: feather collars. While at first, it seemed odd, I think its a trend that actually may work if you have the courage to try it. Feather collars allows hijabis to coverage in the front. I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for a creative ways for more coverage in the front! I created this collage with my absolute favorite color green, but I think this look works with any color from hot pink to Big Bird yellow. Just make sure to keep the feather color black or in a neutral color to avoid looking like Big Bird though!

Meet the Brand: Inayah Collection

Jumah mubarak! I hope that you are well on this beautiful Friday inshallah.

Are you looking for a modern yet modest clothing? I used to struggle with trying to find hijab friendly clothes. Now, I feel like even walking into a large chain like Forever 21, there are countless options for hijabis. However, it still takes effort to layer some of those pieces from mainstream chain stores in order to look modest. It also is harder for curvy hijabis to layer too. I find that lots of cute outfit options for our slender hijabi fashionistas just ends up making me look bulky! The good news for hijabis who (a) hate layering too much and (b) look bulky with layers, is that there are more and more hijab brand houses cropping up. One of the beautiful things about the internet is that hijab brands that may be located in other countries are now easily accessible! I am always excited to not only support my fellow Muslims, but it is also nice to be able to shop in the comfort of my own home. I love to do it while sipping chai in my pajamas and my baby is asleep.

One of the more established brands is Inayah Collection. They have a great selection of not only hijabs and abayas, but also options like maxi skirts, pants, and tops. They even sell cute hijab pins! The one thing I really like about this brand is that their clothes are lightweight and have graceful drapes. Drapes flatter any figure! For slender hijabis, it adds some volume and for curvy hijabis, it hides some of the lumps and bumps. If you have not heard of Inayah Collection, please check them out! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Mint Green Love

Mint Green with Hearts Hijab From Haute Hijab

As we see more pastel iterms crop up in time for spring, I have been really looking for a really pretty but unique mint green hijab to wear. I have a mint green pashmina, but I feel like it was such a typical pastel hijab. I wanted something that was fresh and fashion forward. When I found this mint green with hearts hijab from Haute Hijab, I was beyond THRILLED! It was just springy enough to fit with my spring pieces, but since it had black hearts, gave me the versatility to style with my heavier black pieces.

The hijabs from Haute Hijab make sense for California weather since they are very lightweight. Almost like a chiffon feel.

I believe this hijab is sold out, but check back with Haute Hijab on other fun new hijabs soon iA. I love ordering hijabs online from them since their shipping is really fast and you always get Mel’s personal note which I think is a nice touch. Let me know what you think if you order from them!

Hijabi Trend Alert: Shoes With Bows

Jimmy Choo Blush Bow Tie Pump

Jimmy Choo Blush Bow Tie Pump

Happy Wednesday Hijabi Life readers! Today is all about a shoe trend I am so happy to see: shoes with bows. I love girly details like ruffles and bows because it reminds me of playing dress up when I was younger. While recent trends have been a bit more tough chic (think spikes and studs), I think this trend is a nicer more translatable one for hijabis who like to keep things simple. Jimmy Choo is making a big push on shoes with bows for spring, but I can imagine that fast fashion retailers like Zara and H&M will catch up with their own more affordable version of the shoes with bows trend.

What do you think? Would you rock this look with your hijabi style? I know I would definitely rock a flats version of this. I simply can’t do heels as a mommy of a very active toddler! I admire all mommies who can do heels because it is definitely not easy!

PS: Jimmy Choo wants to see what your Instagram pictures of shoes with bows look like. Make sure to use the #bow hashtag.

Hijabi Obsession: Pastels

So today is my birthday! And while it is never quite the same as when you are younger, this birthday was more special than most. I got to spend it with my closest friends and family.

One great thing about blogging is that it seems that your friends will read your blog and its like a window into your head. The reason I say this is because based on my recent obsession with candy colored beauty products, my friends all came to visit me bearing pastel gifts!

So today, I am rocking a lot of mint, aqua, and sorbet cream. And I feel as happy as the 80’s kid I used to be wearing my pastel Izod polo (which I used to pair with my black blazer with shoulders pads!).

I hope you have an amazing weekend and stay tuned for more posts soon iA!

Hijabi Obsession: Lace Looks

Source: 25.media.tumblr.com via Sandra on Pinterest

Hello my lovelies! After a nice long holiday, I am back in action. One of my new resolutions for the New Year is to refresh my look without going bananas on my budget. As a hijabi mommy, I would prefer to save my funds for a rainy day. One way I always refresh my look is with new hijabs. I love the recent rash of romantic lace hijabs. They look amazing. One of my main issues with this look in the past has been the sheer nature of lace. However with a solid underlay, lace can be a stunning hijabi fashionista look.

I particularly love the look of this nude lace hijab. What do you think?

I am always inspired by the beautiful hijabis of the Bay area, so when I saw my girlfriend Sana rocking her skirt for Eid, I knew I had to get it! Ladies, if you are looking for high quality hijabi friendly skirts that are sewn by a fellow hijabi designer, please try LJ Originals by Layla Jalanbo. Layla is extremely talented and all about making sure each piece is specially made just for you. I have to say, her pieces are in limited stock. So far, her skirts are all sold out, but the one featured above called the Chantilly High Waisted skirt is still available.

I personally chose the Chantilly high waisted skirt for myself since it is a romantic print and I am all about romance. I love it! Whether you are curvy or long and lean, this skirt has the most stunning shape and flow. Trust me, I own plenty of designer pieces and none of my skirts are this beautiful.

Make sure to like the LJ Originals by Layla Jalanbo Facebook page as well! Let me know when you order one of her items and I may feature you on Hijabi Life!

Hijab Fashion Trend: Purple Passion

A Lot of hijabis are going dark with not only their hijab color palette, but also their makeup. Normally, I prefer smoky eyes and a nude lipstick, but there is something so alluring about bold purple lipstick paired with flawless skin. The key to not looking like a goth wannabe is making sure that you have some color in the form of bronzer or blush on your face.

I think it’s still a little too daring for me, but I definitely will try a purple ombre scarf soon iA!

Review: Rent The Runway

Okay, I can admit that I am a fashion junkie. So when I received a promotional gift card in my December Birchbox to try a site called Rent the Runway, I was so excited! So far, the sign up and the actual process of ordering the dress I wanted was painless. They even give you a free backup size dress (perfect for hijabis who don’t want something too tight). I also was able to chat online in real time with a stylist about what size dress to order any way. I explained that I am a hijabi and she was so excited!

This site is perfect for hijabis who want to dress nicely for special occasions yet don’t want to spend hundreds on a dress they will only wear once. I ordered the Alice by Temperley dress above for my best friend’s wedding. I will let you know how the dress fits and looks once I get it in January. In the meantime, make sure to check Rent the Runway out if you are a budget hijabi fashionista!
